A poet, journalist, and translator, Nguyen Do was born in Ha Tinh province in 1959, and left Vietnam in 1999. He has published five books, including The Fish Wharf and The Empty Space. With Paul Hoover, he has edited and translated Black Dog, Black Night, an anthology of contemporary Vietnamese poetry.
