Mary Ellen Hannibal is a nature and environmental journalist, and author of three books, Evidence of Evolution, The Spine of the Continent, and most recently, Citizen Scientist: Searching for Heroes and Hope in An Age of Extinction, named a Best Book of 2016 and winner of the Nautilus Book Award. It is also the subject of a Stanford TedX talk. Her articles have appeared in The New York Times, Esquire, Elle, Yoga Journal, Livestrong, and Nautilus, among many other publications. She also writes for the San Francisco Botanical Garden and founded and produced Evolve2009, a city-wide celebration of Darwin and evolution, which won the California Library Association’s 2009 award for advocacy and communications.
