Janis Cooke Newman’s debut novel, Mary, was published last year by MacAdam/Cage. Mary was named USA Today’s Best Historical Fiction Book of 2006 and nominated for the 2006 Los Angeles Times’ Art Seidenbaum Award for First Fiction. Newman lives in San Francisco and teaches writing classes at Book Passage.
