Jordan Fisher Smith spent 21 years as a ranger in California, Idaho, Wyoming, and Alaska. His nonfiction book, Nature Noir, was a San Francisco Chronicle Best Book of 2005. His book on the future of wilderness will be published by Random House in 2011. He lives in the northern Sierra.
