A version of the memoir by Humboldt County redwood activist Julia Butterfly Hill remains in progress, to star Rachel Weisz, and reportedly begins shooting later this year in Northern California…Gus Van Sant’s feature based on Randy Shilts’ biography The Mayor of Castro Street, starring Sean Penn as Harvey Milk, has just released the trailer….A short film companion to State by State, a new anthology featuring one essay about each U.S. state, and co-edited by San Francisco expat Sean Wilsey, is now online. Wilsey’s book tour makes its only Bay Area stop on Saturday, September 27, at Booksmith.
