Kidquake

Teachers relish moments when learning becomes interactive and having the opportunity to interact with the people creating stories with their students in mind is very exciting.”

—Maricela Leon-Barrera, Librarian, Cesar Chavez Elementary School

Litquake gets kids in on the literary action with the year-round Kidquake in the Schools as well as our annual Kidquake held at the San Francisco Public Library during our Festival in October.

Maya Kidquake Presentation at Cesar Chavez Kidquake in the Schools sends children’s book authors from the Bay Area and beyond into public elementary schools in San Francisco. The kids get to meet real-live authors and illustrators at assembly programs and in smaller classroom settings. Litquake gives each student a book by the visiting author. And, voilà—a reader is born! Kidquake in the Schools reaches more than 2,000 students in 10 elementary schools in San Francisco each year and gives teachers exciting real-life tools to help children develop reading skills and a life-long passion for reading!

Kidquake at Flynn In addition, Litquake produces Kidquake, a number of kid-focused events at the San Francisco Public Library as part of the Litquake festival each October. In true Litquake style, students in grades K-8 get to sample from the work of 4 or 5 authors in an hour-long presentation and then participate in hands-on workshops with the writers they’ve just seen. Sign-up forms are distributed early each fall to San Francisco schools. Kidquake at the SFPL reaches 800 children each fall.
