This year the festival features a number of dedicated programming clusters, where you can enjoy hours of literature and avoid the commute, from our classic Off the Richter Scale and Art of Writing series, to our new Words and Pictures afternoon stroll through San Francisco museums, and our expanded Berkeley Ramble events throughout downtown Berkeley. - The annual Off the Richter Scale opens the festival with two earth-shaking day of writers and books at the Variety Preview Room in downtown San Francisco. Book sales and signings with live, uncaged authors follow each session. Free.

If eight days’ exposure to some of the world’s best fiction and nonfiction prose has inspired you to get started on some of your own, or if you’re itching to get a jump on your submission for next spring’s Lit Camp, hop out of bed Sunday morning after the Crawl and head over to the famed San Francisco Writers’ Grotto. Start with a round of bagels and schmear, wash it down with some strong coffee, then roll into one of four workshops. Followed by Bloody Marys and mingling!
