Lit & Lunch is San Francisco’s first and only reading series to focus on international literature and translation, featuring prominent poets, authors, and translators reading and discussing their work. Here, Katherine Silver reads and discusses her PEN Translation Fund award-winning translation of Senselessness, Salvadoran writer Horacio Castellanos Moya’s novel about a boozing, sex-obsessed writer employed by the Catholic Church to proofread a 1,100 page report on the army’s massacre and torture of indigenous villagers.

“It’s impossible to read Tobias Wolff and not come away transformed,” says the Philadelphia Inquirer. Judging by the number of authors and artists who lined up to be part of our tribute to the great writer, just knowing Wolff is transformational. Tonight, Litquake will bestow the second annual Barbary Coast Award for contribution to the Bay Area literary community upon the Stanford professor and mentor of many. Includes a performance from Word for Word. The event is co-presented by the Contemporary Jewish Museum, in their magnificent new building South of Market.
