History
As part of the festival each October, Litquake produces Kidquake, and brings over 800 K-5 students and teachers to the San Francisco Public Library for two days of presentations by acclaimed children's authors, workshops, author meet-and-greets, and free books.
In true Litquake style, San Francisco students in grades K-5 get to sample from the work of four or five authors in an hour-long presentation and then participate in hands-on workshops with the writers they’ve just seen. Each student leaves with a new book and teachers receive a bag of books and other goodies. Sign-up forms are distributed early each fall to San Francisco schools.
Last year, 100% of teachers noted that Kidquake programming reinforces lessons from the classroom, and prized Kidquake’s ability to inspire their students by affording them a connection to authors and the writing process. Kidquake also caters to San Francisco’s most diverse student bodies.

Originally from the Adirondack foothills in Northern New York, Bekah has lived in San Francisco since August 2018. The daughter of a public school teacher, she’s worked for many years as a K-12 educator and recently completed her MLIS at San Jose State University. Besides poetry, books, and stories in all forms—and the community that comes from sharing these—things that make Bekah feel alive include biking, outdoor adventures, and gardening. Seeing birds and whales is another one of her favorite things. She has done all 27 walks in Adah Bakalinsky’s Stairway Walks in San Francisco (7th edition) and would love to recommend one to you! Bekah is a passionate supporter and regular attendee of Litquake, and is thrilled to join the Kidquake team.
